Labor Day, oh the irony

No one sees it?  A day called “Labor Day” in which everyone is off?  I know I know its designed to be a relief to those who toil every day at work.  It is the bookend of summer, with Memorial Day as the other end, but why?  Why do we begin and end what is perhaps the nicest season with a day off, but have so few (really just one, Independence Day) in between?  For all of the fall, winter, and even spring holidays out there we couldn’t come up with any other occasions in the summer to take a day off and enjoy the sun?  Okay, I’m sure it has something to do with our agrarian society and the need for farmers to be working the whole summer, but still, even farmers need a day off!  What do you say, next year we actually celebrate Christmas in July?!?  Welcome to Fall.

Day off? Then why was I doing so much work yesterday.

Also as long as we don’t miss Christmas this year to get the close one I’m happy.
