Pitchman
June 30, 2009mike Comments OffRIP Billy Mays. Hard to believe all of the tragic deaths that occured last week in world of celebrities. One of the most difficult to believe of the bunch was the death of Billy Mays. He was so young and his death so strange. We all hit our heads, go to bed and think nothing of it, truely frightening to think . (Or at least that was one of the theories behind his young and tragic death)
What is most fascinating about the Pitchman is his career. In the age of the internet, this man brought a product (Oxiclean and many after than) from obscurity to household man with… infomercials. So many of us have DVR, Tivo, the previous channel or favorites button lined up so we don’t have to watch commercials. I mean any commercials, even the trailer to GI Joe, or the latest Geico joke, let alone the infomercials! Maybe it says something about society, maybe even in the age of intelligent web adds brought to you by Google and your computers cache and surfing preference, there is still something to the art of the pitch (I sure hope so, I’ve been a salesman for some time now!) So thank you Billy Mays for reminding us of the human element behind it all!
