It seems like its a collection of stuff for people who like stuff.
What does that mean? It means its one (or several) people’s writing of a quick snippet of information typically ending with a link to the actual article on a news media site. Or alternatively, a quick rant of information not ending with a link.
No different than what is done here, but are we not doing enough?
I like to think of Styrofoamsoup’s content to be relatively original, sure I might rant here and there about the tech stuff du jour or something about politics a company or what not and clearly you saw something on the same topic on another media outlet. (hell I try not to COMPLETELY make things up as much as I can)
Truth is I like to think of Styrofoamsoup as more of an “Opinions” section in your paper than of a traditional blog. I like to thing that the editorials are just that, editorials, something to get your mind thinking hopefully about information you already knew about, but turning it on its head a bit.
I don’t always agree with the positions I take in my posts, they are typically for academic discourse after all in a past life I studied history (in case you can’t tell!).
I just try to get people to think, mostly about things they already know something about, but rarely question what they heard.
I try to be short and sweet, sometimes comical, and as our slogan (that I didn’t create) says “Biased and balanced! We can have them both, right?”
As long as you’re thinking, I don’t care what you’re thinking. I hope that by engaging in my media you get an understanding of what myself and the other authors are adding of value to the information ever present on the internet.
Sure we might bash a product, service, politician, company, past time, the Regal, but in reality we are supporting it. We’re picking it apart, exposing its flaws so people can make a more informed decision. Same is true for the things we seem to “cheer lead” sometimes its out of sarcasm, sometimes its to enlighten people about the underdog, sometimes its because we’re bored.
All in all we are trying to do something different, not Apple different, just a little different. Something you can read with your morning coffee (or your second pot in the afternoon) and think…. Hmmm…. I never looked at it quite that way. Love or hate what we say…. what’s important is that you had a say. You put down your cup, and thought.
We’re so used to being spoonfed information these days that many times we don’t take the time to think it through. We don’t use our hands, our minds, and our hearts to analyze.
