Senator Charles (Chuck) Schumer Letter
July 15, 2010mike Comments OffAs you may know by now the Apple iPhone 4 has some issues with reception. As you may also know Consumer Reports (finally) called them out.
One more notable and respectable individual to call them out was Senator Charles (Chuck) Schumer D-NY.
In his letter posted here on CNN : http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2010/07/15/schumer-pens-open-letter-to-steve-jobs/?fbid=bl2F9lh9NwA
Senator Schumer states: “The burden for consumers caused by this glitch, combined with the confusion over its cause and how it will be fixed, has the potential to undermine the many benefits of this innovative device.”
With that quote in mind I wrote Senator Schumer another letter regarding another notable product recall of late. One of much graver severity.
Here it is:
Senator Schumer,
I wanted to thank you once again for speaking out in protection of the consumer and your constituents regarding the recent issue and subsequent cover up by Apple and the iPhone 4.
I specifically found the following quote from your letter to Mr. Jobs to be meaningful “The burden for consumers caused by this glitch, combined with the confusion over its cause and how it will be fixed, has the potential to undermine the many benefits of this innovative device. “.
I believe that the message in that sentence is loud and clear. In recent times there is another company that comes to mind as needing to be reminded of the need to clarify the cause of a defect, Toyota. The recent recall(s) of millions of Toyotas and their subsequent cover up is unconscionable. The iPhone makes phone calls and displays the internet and pretty apps. Toyota vehicles are capable of death, and have resulted in numerous ones.
I believe the actions taken by the NHTSB have been lax at best. Fining them $16 million would be the equivalent of fining one of your constituents 16 dollars. Laughable at best.
Harsher actions NEEDS to take place as people are dying while countless consumers are buying the same vehicles affected by the recall and as we know, floor mats (like holding the iPhone wrong) and shims (like the iPhone bar display) were NOT the solutions.
Thank you for your time I hope you take firm action regarding this grave issue.
Regards,
Mike Tyrpak
