Uninstall or remove the Antivir Solution Pro Virus

Yes, that’s right you WANT to get rid of this “antivirus software” Why?  It’s fake and wants to steal your credit card information and/or take control of your computer!

What it does?  Make your computer pretty much inoperable!  No .exe files can be run, good luck taking Internet Explorer anywhere except the site to buy Antivir Solution Pro.

So I looked all over the internet for solutions and none helped me, I couldn’t even get into Safe Mode!!  So here’s what I did:

1) Get USB or SD or other removable media.

2) On an uninfected computer download Hijack This, mine is an older version from Download.com but the current version is here from Trend Micro (a real antivirus company)

3) Download and unzip the file and put the unzipped .exe onto the thumb drive

4) Reboot infected computer with removable media in it.

5)When you get to the Windows desktop ASAP! click My Computer then on the removable drive and RUN Hijack This.  If you wait too long the Antivir loads and you would be stuck since it doesn’t allow executables to run.

6) USE HIJACK THIS SAFELY!  Look for very suspicious sounding names (the forums on many sites including SoftSailor will show you what to look for) in the list and read Trend Micro instructions for use or you could remove something important not the virsus.

7) Good luck, after removing I had to restore IE back to the default settings before I could get on the Net.

*Note this is just an overview, Hijack This is complicated stuff, but Antivir is a SERIOUS virus.  I would call your local geek, grandchild or neighbor with help using Hijack This.

UPDATE:  I highly recommend using Spybot, Malaware, and all of the other spyware removal tools you can get your hands on once you have it under control particularly in Safe Mode once restored.  I also had to reinstall Google Chrome and I recommend reinstalling Internet Explorer (not at the same time!) once done.

NEW UPDATE:  So I am a Google Chrome user.  And I had been getting the 400 and 404 errors, yes I cleaned the cache, reinstalled Chrome, am connected to the internet (duh!) tried it all.

The thing that worked for me was Kaspersky.  Don’t know how their full suite of anti-virus software works, but this little Virus Removal Tool 2010 seemed to do the trick, no more 400 and 404 errors in Google Search!
