Rule #1

No matter what you seem to do there are rules.  Classroom rules, Rules of the road (no that’s not the horrible show on MTV) you name it.  But no matter what you are doing, the most important rule is always Rule #1.  But who determines what Rule #1 is?  How do we gauge the importance of this rule?  I mean what is the first rule of driving for example?  Don’t drink and drive?  Or what about the first rule of badminton?  Laughter is not allowed after referring to the birdie as a shuttlecock?  I mean that’s pretty important because if their were laughter in badminton it would be reduced to the level of drunken sports like beer pong and bowling.  Look both ways before crossing the street, wash your hands before eating, you name it, there’s a rule for it.  How did our society become such a rule of law based system?  Is it to keep lawyers and politicians employed?  Does it make us safer when the police pull us over for going 40 in a 35?  I don’t know.  Tell me, what are some rules that really irk you?
